Position Summary:

Immediate Opening

House of Refuge is a transitional housing non-profit located in the east valley. This position will provide professional work as a member of a team responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our rental property community. Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor will perform necessary rehabilitation and maintenance of all grounds and buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform interior and exterior property maintenance, landscaping and cleaning as assigned. Performs routine equipment maintenance and repair.

2. May Assist with materials acquisition, inventory, cost containment and record keeping.

3. Works professionally with House of Refuge administrative, operational and volunteer staff, as well as, outside contractors and customers. Communicates with Maintenance Supervisor when additional assistance is required for assigned duties.

4. Occasional emergency “on-call” work on nights/weekends as needed.

5. Must demonstrate knowledge of safety measures and standards as appropriate to duties assigned.

6. Maintain appropriate collaborative relationships with local agencies to ensure a positive working relationship between community agencies and of House of Refuge.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety finger print clearance.
  • Working knowledge of structure rehabilitation, as well as, safety measures and standards that accompany assigned duties a must.


Knowledge of the field of transitional housing, supportive service programs and/or domestic violence preferred. Must be able to prioritize. Must be able to interact and communicate with a diverse population both verbally and written. Must posses Excellent people and customer service skills.



  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.


  • Requires two (2) years of maintenance related experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Specialized Training:

  • Trades apprenticeship preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
  • Creativity, initiative and independent thinking, and problem solving skills are strongly preferred.
  • Should have working knowledge of building systems codes, OSHA requirements, and knowledge of safe working techniques and procedures.
  • Proven ability to take and follow directions in the daily performance of duties is required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited guidance.
  • Must have excellent communication, organizing, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience in locksmithing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping and/or painting preferred.

Schedule: Regular FT 40 Hours Per Week, Varied
