MESA, Ariz. (Oct. _, 2021) – The owners of the Board & Brush Creative Studio in Mesa, Ariz., Mary June and Dennis Collins, are finally ready to celebrate business ownership, community togetherness, and DIY successes after more than a year of navigating the ins and outs of opening the studio during the pandemic. They’re hosting an open house-style grand opening celebration on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 3-5 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. There will be gift bags with coupons for the first 50 people, appetizers and beverages, and staff demonstrations. Attendees can also enter to win a private VIP sign-making party for six valued at more than $400. The event is free and open to the public, no RSVP necessary. The studio is located at 2837 North Power Road, Suite 112, in The Village at Las Sendas. For more on the studio or to register for a workshop, log on to www.boardandbrush.com/mesa. Follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/boardandbrushmesaaz. The studio number is 602.663.1515.

The Collins are part of the country’s fastest-growing DIY wood sign and home décor art workshop chain. Board & Brush issues new designs on the first of each month, with the latest releases themed to fall, football, and family. You need not be a master craftsperson to sign up at the Mesa Apex studio, with novices feeling right at home at Board & Brush thanks to the instructor-led format of the workshops during which attendees are guided through the ins and outs of power tools, paint, stencil art, and assembly, with all materials supplied by the studio.

Each “Pick Your Project” workshop lasts about three hours and costs $68, with pre-registration required. The Mesa studio also offers family friendly workshops, time crunch mini workshops, specialty projects such as door mats, backyard games and totes, and private parties any day of the week by reservation.

The studio is keeping class size to 20, with four people to a table, to allow room to spread out, with instructors at every table. The Collins are following CDC guidelines and kindly asks that those not vaccinated wear masks while others may wear them to their comfort level. This is a BYOB establishment after 4 p.m., so customers are invited to bring their own beer, wine, and snacks to add to the festive mood.

While the studio opened last summer, it’s only now that the owners felt ready to celebrate. “We got through the last year and decided we would not let the pandemic steal the joy of an official grand opening and ribbon cutting,” said Mary June. “We always had faith that our community would support us, we did our part to keep people safe and, here we are, more than a year later, celebrating what Board & Brush means to Mesa.” And what it means, according to Mary June, is a chance to be together for a fun experience. That includes bachelorette parties, birthday gatherings, corporate events, even date nights. In fact, Mary June and her husband Dennis first experienced a Board & Brush workshop on a date night themselves.

“I’ve always been into crafts, saw that it was a franchise, visited two other studios, and decided it would be a fit for my personality and it would be fun to bring this to Mesa since the area didn’t have anything like this,” said Mary June. “The studio is a party place and a place to relax.”

It’s worth noting the Collins are entrepreneurs at heart, having started several successful businesses over the years. That entrepreneurial mindset was passed down to their five children who all own their own businesses. Yet, as Mary June explains, the Board & Brush Creative Studio is something she can finally call her own. “I’ve enjoyed helping my family with their businesses, but this is just for me,” she shared. “I love being around people and enjoy seeing how happy workshop attendees are with the works of art and home decor items they’ve created.”

While Mary June is making Board & Brush her fulltime pursuit, she did enlist Dennis to help with prepping all the wood for workshops while he keeps his day job running his own company.

The studio is located in a shopping plaza with lots of restaurants nearby, plus a coffee shop, day spa and more, so workshop attendees can definitely make an afternoon or evening of it. There’s easy parking in front and back. Once inside, people will be wowed by the nearly 250 projects filling the walls. When asked which designs have been most popular since opening, Mary June mentioned the porch signs, coat racks, and trays. She said they did a lot of patriotic boards during the summer months, and now the Halloween signs are taking over in popularity. She expects people will be making signs to give as holiday gifts very soon too.

The owners are transplants from Ohio but have resided in Mesa for 37 years and invite local charities interested in hosting a fundraising workshop at the Mesa Board & Brush to contact the studio directly. “We like to say ‘yes’ to requests for donations from non-profits making a difference in the community,” added Mary June.
