Arizona Opens Its First Permanent Baseball Museum
Arizona Opens Its First Permanent Baseball Museum
Arizona’s baseball history has a permanent home. The Arizona Baseball Museum, the first and only permanent baseball museum in the state, will open to the public with a grand opening festival on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Mesa Historical Museum campus.
The museum traces baseball’s deep roots in Arizona, from the sport’s early days in the Arizona Territory to the birth of Spring Training, the formation of the Cactus League, and the fan experiences that have defined generations of the game. Exhibits feature historic photographs, rare memorabilia, personal stories, and rotating special exhibits highlighting Arizona’s unique role in baseball history. “Baseball has been part of Arizona’s story for more than a century,” said Susan Ricci, Executive Director. “After two years of hard work and fundraising, we are proud to open this museum just in time for spring training."
Arizona became a spring training destination over eighty years ago, reshaping the state’s cultural and economic landscape. Until now, that story had never been told in a permanent, statewide museum. Located on the Mesa Historical Museum campus, the Arizona Baseball Museum expands the city’s cultural offerings while preserving stories that connect baseball, community, and place.
