Aster Aging Seeks Community Donations for Annual Holiday Helpers Program

Aster Aging is inviting individuals, businesses, and community organizations to support its annual Holiday Helpers program, which brings holiday cheer to older adults throughout the East Valley through gift donations, volunteer opportunities, and community support.

Last year, Aster Aging provided holiday gift bags to more than 1,200 seniors, while hundreds more benefited from its annual holiday luncheons. With continued community generosity, the organization hopes to reach even more older adults this holiday season.

Community members are encouraged to participate by donating items from Aster Aging’s holiday wish list, supporting older adults with pets, volunteering their time, or making a financial contribution.

Holiday Gift Wish List

Aster Aging is collecting new items to include in holiday gift bags for seniors. Requested items include:

• * Grocery store and retail gift cards, including Target
• * Jigsaw puzzles
• * Large-print puzzle books
• * Jar openers
• * Adult coloring books
• * Colored pencils
• * Arts and crafts supplies
• * Candy and packaged snacks
• * Decks of playing cards
• * Stationery and postage stamps
• * Calendars
• * Magnifying glasses
• * Flashlights and batteries
• * Toiletries, including lotions, lip balm, and sunscreen
• * Brushes and combs
• * Nail care supplies
• * Blankets and throws
• * Non-skid socks
• * Mugs, hot chocolate, and tea
• * Grabber reach tools
• * First aid kits
• * Nightlights, LED strips, and puck lights

Aster Aging serves seniors from a variety of backgrounds and faiths. Donated gifts celebrating the holiday season should avoid a specific religious focus.

Supporting Seniors and Their Pets

Through its Neighbors Pet Program, Aster Aging also accepts donations of dry and wet cat and dog food, pet toys, and treats. These supplies help older adults and individuals with disabilities continue caring for their beloved pets, which provide companionship and connection.

Volunteer Opportunities

Community members and organizations can also get involved by volunteering to pack holiday gift baskets, serve lunch at holiday parties, assist with seasonal activities, and support other program needs. Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate.

Financial contributions of any amount are also welcome and help Aster Aging continue providing programs and services that support older adults throughout the East Valley.
