Mesa needs elected officials who will support and focus on creating a strong business environment and talented workforce that are the cornerstones of a vibrant city. The Mesa Chamber of Commerce seeks to further those objectives by evaluating and endorsing candidates who are running for public offices of importance to the business community.
In its evaluation process, the Mesa Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors follows its time-tested written procedures that include soliciting candidate views through written questionnaires, holding individual interviews with each candidate, and, for the important city races, sponsoring a public forum for where candidates can address Chamber members and the public in general. The Chamber’s Good Government Committee spent several days developing interview and forum questions, interviewing candidates, and conducting the candidate forum. The Good Government Committee then makes a recommendation to the Mesa Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for a final vote on candidate endorsements.
With respect to Mesa’s upcoming election, Mesa Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, Shannon Heinze of Guild Mortgage, stated, “Mesa is fortunate to have so many qualified candidates participating in this election. Each of them is a community leader and would add to Mesa’s success. Our job is to choose from among qualified candidates, those individuals who the Chamber Board collectively believes will best advance business interests in the City of Mesa.” With that in mind, the Mesa Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is proud to endorse the following candidates in the upcoming City of Mesa election cycle and office of Maricopa County Supervisor.
City of Mesa District 1 Councilmember Richard Adams
City of Mesa District 2 Councilmember Julie Spilsbury
City of Mesa District 3 Councilmember Francisco Heredia
City of Mesa Mayor Scott Smith
Maricopa County Supervisor District 1 Jack Sellers
Maricopa County Supervisor District 2 Thomas Galvin
In the near future, the Mesa Chamber of Commerce will announce a public meet and greet so members of our business community and others can get acquainted with and hear from these candidates.
